CWMBRAN centre-back Danny Gabbidon has stated his desire to carry on playing for Wales after making his comeback in Tuesday’s defeat to Serbia.

The 34-year-old made his first competitive start for his country since 2009 and, despite the 3-0 defeat, he’s glad to be back in the fold.

Gabbidon did retire from international football in 2010 but he reversed that decision after a call from then manager Gary Speed.

And he’s hoping to play a part under current Wales boss Chris Coleman going into the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

“It’s always great to represent your country,” said the Crystal Palace defender.

“It’s been a while since my last appearance so it was good to be back in the squad but it’s hard to take a lot from the game when you lose 3-0.

“The next two games are really important now. We have to try to win them because it obviously affects the seeding for the next campaign.

“We have to make sure when we meet up next month that we are focused because we need to take some points.

“I want to be involved with the national team as long as possible,” he added.

“As long as I’m playing regularly for my club and playing well I want to be involved.

“We’re an emerging team and I think we could be doing better than we are. We have got some good players and we have played well at times but we need to turning that into wins.”
