NELSON started this game on the front foot and were quickly into their stride playing crisp neat football and deservedly took the lead through Dan Lewis, who clinically finished a nice sweeping move.
Nelson continued to create chances, which came and went as the hosts began to get a foothold in the game and started to apply some pressure.
Then midway through the half the equaliser came when a punt up field was missed by the Nelson centre half and allowed to bounce and an under hit back pass left the Nelson keeper stranded as the Caerphilly striker levelled the score. 1-1 half time.
Nelson began the second half slowly but then began to dominate and created a handful of chances all of which were wasted.
This was always going to be their downfall as with ten minutes left Caerphilly took advantage of more hesitant defending with their first shot of the second half which gave Caerphilly a lead.
Nelson responded with some quick substitutions which failed to inspire the attach. Despite creating further chances the final touch/shot failed to find the back of the net. This was due to some good saves from the Caerphilly keeper and some poor finishing from the Nelson strike force.
At the final whistle Nelson had lost 2-1, a game they could and should have won had they taken their chances This week sees Nelson in cup action. They have been drawn at home to Abercynon in the South Wales FA Intermediate Cup. Kick off is 2.30 at the Wern Park on Saturday 21/9/13.
