A NEWPORT Gwent Dragons development team will cross the border to take on Oxford University this evening (kick-off 7.15pm).
The side will be captained by former Wales lock Adam Jones at Iffley Road and is a mixture of youth and experience.
Fly-half Steffan Jones and centre Lewis Robling get some game time as they continue their comebacks from elbow and ankle injuries respectively while centre Matthew Pewtner and prop Nathan Williams also feature.
Newport’s Geraint O’Driscoll, who played four times for the region in 2011/12, starts at full-back after catching the eye in the Premiership while Bedwas hooker Rhys Hutcherson, who was on trial at the Ospreys in the summer, will get a chance to impress from the bench.
Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones said: “There has been a lot of training going on with the academy players and it’s great to see them in a good quality game of rugby against Oxford University.
“It brings together some players from the senior squad who are returning from injury or some of those who need game time plus the academy players.
“It also gives those future Dragons players in the academy the chance to play alongside these senior Dragons squad members.”
