Ebbw Vale lose forwards coach Geraint Lewis to Pontypridd
EBBW Vale are once again on the hunt for a new forwards coach after the departure of Geraint Lewis to Pontypridd.
The Steelmen appointed the former Wales flanker in June but he has taken up the offer of the same role with the Premiership champions, who lost head coach Dale McIntosh to Cardiff Blues last month.
Ebbw Vale plumped for Lewis after leaving the position vacant following Neil Edwards’ move to Neath in the autumn of 2012.
They duly romped to glory in the inaugural Swalec Championship title under the watchful eye of head coach Jason Strange and they are looking good for their fourth title on their spin – and promotion to the Premiership.
The Steelmen have won all nine of their games and have already built up a 12-point lead over second-placed Narberth.
Now they will set about ensuring they have a reunion with Lewis in the top flight in 2013/14.
“As a club we are delighted that, once again, the excellent work of one of our coaches has earned him the opportunity to move to a higher level and further develop his rugby career,” read a club statement.
“We are, however, saddened to lose a coach of Geraint's ability as he has made a very big contribution in a short time.
“Geraint has been a pleasure to work with and leaves with our best wishes for his future career.
“The club would like to acknowledge the integrity, professionalism and respect shown by officials at Pontypridd RFC to Ebbw Vale RFC throughout this process.”
The Steelmen’s next game is on November 23 at Beddau.
