Dragons closing in on double delight with Wales international signings

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons are set to pull off the biggest double signing coup in their recent history with two Welsh internationals reportedly on the way.

While there has been no official confirmation from the Rodney Parade based region, reports suggest fullback Lee Byrne and winger Aled Brew will arrive at the end of the season.

Despite reported interest from Cardiff Blues, it is understood long-term target Byrne, linked with the Dragons for several weeks, will sign from Clermont Auvergne.

The 33-year old former Lions member is thought to be keen for a move back to Wales and is currently recuperating from a shoulder injury.

His signing would boost a young Dragons squad in terms of experience and provide stern competition for Wales international Dan Evans.

Brew's return would mean a third spell with the Dragons after a two-year stint in France.

Brew expressed a desire to rejoin the region he has scored 215 points for when he departed for France.

Great news if it happens, Jason and Aled had a great understanding last time and Lee will be a great addition as back up for Dan, all goes to strengthen the sqad.
Now for a couple of props and get the Anglo-Welsh going.

"We'll keep a welcome in the hillside"
Great to get the abrasive physical approach Aled always exhibited in a side that can use it properly. He always was good follower upperer (new word!) of kicks so that sometimes aimless kicks became a real menace for the opposition because they had no time to think or plan a run back.

Always been a fan of Lee Byrne. A class act for sure, and likely to be very dangerous when you think of the other members NGD has in its back three cohort.
Well done NGD board and Lyn These guys wouldn't have entertained NGD last season.

Maybe I'm being grumpier than normal, but what we will be paying these two could've got us a decent prop, that's what we need. Yes, they are class players, and it shows intent by the region to get that type of player, but as showed at the Blues in Cardiff, we lost the scrum battle in the 2nd half, had no platform for Toby, and the game went.
It would be good if we could get a couple of chasers for the upperer, we are awful at those chases.

I am sure Lyn and his team are aware of the problems in the scrum. If the fans are this concerned (and we all are, no one on any of these threads has said how competitive the front row is!) you know the pros are.
Still its a good sign that good players now want to come to NGD; don't forget Teams win matches, SQUADS win tournaments and leagues

Yes, good players want to play for good coaches in a good structure. That side of it has been sorted out at the Dragons.

First - are you blind at RP?? FORWARDS FORWARDS FORARDS are what the Dragons Need not 2Marquee Signings to take the heat off the Coaching Staff

Second - If Dragons join the Aviva, they will get blown to pieces upfront

Third - Why are the Dragons reluctant to invest in FORWARDS rather than Marquee backs

FOURTH - Why do the fans keep getting suckered in, use your voices and demand FORWARDS be signed

It is all well and good signing the above 2 IF they join HOWEVER wouldnt the Dragons Fans prefer 3 or4 forwards who can scrummage , just think of the salary these two must b getting = in my opinion it wold be better spent on FORWARDS as GWENT & DRAGONS have endless supply of young and upcoming backs

With the professional approach, currently being shown at RP, don't the above callers for more props and forward power think that any suitable AVAILBLE candidates are/have been looked at and /or approached?
Personally I think Castrogiovani and Mat Stevens would be great signings and maybe Will James and Ben Cole................
..However I believe they are quite well situated at the moment....****!
Any good Romanians left out there?

am I missing something here ... "two welsh internationals" ................. I don't think so, Byre is past it & Brew was a great Regional Player but never quite cut it at international level plus neither are current or likely to be welsh internationals

PROBLEM IS UPFRONT NOT BEHIND - What shall we do to mask the fact that we haven't signed any props I know lets make two hyper inflated signings (who I must add ARE NOT current welsh internationals) to keep the fans at bay

so someon Darren, Kingsley& Lyn, WHERE ARE THE PROPS AND A DECENT HOOKER

Someone needs a bit of a lie down. Since when have you been a Dragon's supporter anyway ;)

If you were the front 5 issues wouldn't be news for sure.

The Dragons are denying the signings anyhow so chill for 5. Until they run out on the pitch at RP it just all talk.

Talking of talk; LJ is reportedly (That's the word the media uses to print anything it feels like, or "It's understood" in another good one) after props too.

Watch this space (But don't believe much of it!) lol.
