IF Newport are to end their 10-year wait for silverware then they will have to do it the hard way.

The Black and Ambers will face holders Pontypridd at Sardis Road in round two of the Swalec Cup.

Newport must first ensure they don’t come a cropper against Championship outfit Bonymaen in their rearranged tie at Rodney Parade on Tuesday.

Provided they do that they will take on Ponty, who are chasing back-to-back doubles, on the weekend of February 15.

It’s a daunting task but Newport will be buoyed by a reasonable record against the men from Sardis Road.

The Black and Ambers have won four of the last 10 encounters while three of their defeats have been by less than a score.

Newbridge’s reward for edging out Pontypool is a trip to the capital to take on Cardiff on their plastic pitch while there will be at least one Championship side in the quarters with Ebbw Vale hosting RGC 1404.

Cross Keys’ bid to repeat their memorable Millennium Stadium success of 2012 will take them to the winners of the Bargoed versus Bedwas clash.

Swalec Cup, round two draw: Cardiff Met v Llanelli, Carmarthen Quins v Bridgend Athletic, Pontypridd v Newport/Bonymaen, Llanharan/Tondu v Llandovery, Narberth v Aberavon, Bargoed/Bedwas v Cross Keys, Cardiff v Newbridge, Ebbw Vale v RGC 1404.
