Gatland goes for experience in Wales' Six Nations squad

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons forwards Toby Faletau and Andrew Coombs have been named in Wales’ 32-man squad for the Six Nations.

Warren Gatland has named an experienced group of players as Wales attempt to become the first trophy to win the title outright three years on the spin.

There are no shocks in the squad, although centre Jonathan Davies is included despite targeting a March return from the pectoral injury he suffered against South Africa last autumn.

Rhys Webb is preferred to Lloyd Williams as the third scrum-half in the squad.

"We've picked a pretty experienced squad and kept it fairly tight at this stage,” said Gatland, who saw assistant Rob Howley coach Wales to the title last year.

"There is a possibility we may add one or two players in, there are a few younger guys that need a bit of rugby so we were keen for them to stay with the regions.

"Perhaps after the first couple of rounds when they have some more rugby under their belts we may add them into the squad.

"As we did last year which was hugely successful we are going to have the Wales U20 squad come in on Tuesday to train with us and we both got a huge amount from that. It gives us plenty of bodies and a good chance for those boys to come and train with the senior squad.

Forwards: Paul James (Bath), Gethin Jenkins (Cardiff Blues), Ryan Bevington (Ospreys), Richard Hibbard (Ospreys), Ken Owens (Scarlets), Emyr Phillips (Scarlets), Adam Jones (Ospreys), Samson Lee (Scarlets), Rhodri Jones (Scarlets), Alun Wyn Jones (Ospreys), Luke Charteris (Perpignan), Ian Evans (Ospreys), Andrew Coombs (Dragons), Ryan Jones (Ospreys), Justin Tipuric (Ospreys), Sam Warburton Capt (Cardiff Blues), Toby Faletau (Dragons), Dan Lydiate (Racing Metro), Aaron Shingler (Scarlets)

Good squad for a good start to the campaign. I hope the injuries are under control. I think its a great idea to include the -20s in the training mix, what a fabulous thing to do for both senior and juniors.
England away and France are the obvious pit-falls with Ireland not too far behind. This should be a really hotly contested 6nations with the world cup getting closer by the minute.
I hope Hooky can get some game time at 10. And maybe give North a shot at 13😊.

I think he wants to win the first game out of the gate this time, don't forget we lost the first one last season and made it a game of catch-up.
I belive Gats wants to make a statement and going for three grand championships on the trot will take some doing especially when you look at the away fixtures,
I fully expect some youngsters in the mix later on (depending on results of course)
