NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have invited clubs in their area to a meeting where they will provide an update on the four regions’ spat with the Welsh Rugby Union, writes Chris Kirwan

The Dragons will host representatives from clubs in District A – the east of the country – at Rodney Parade on Monday.

Regional chiefs will give the lowdown on the latest issues surrounding a fresh participation agreement with the WRU and their dispute over funding and future European competitions.

The 14 Premiership clubs have already held a meeting with Regional Rugby Wales, the body that represents the Dragons, Cardiff Blues, the Ospreys and the Scarlets.

Meanwhile, RRW has written to clubs to respond to an earlier letter from the Union.

Signed by the chairmen and chief executives of the regions it puts forward their case on the issues of

the national side, community rugby, the participation agreement, the regions’ business position, changes in European professional rugby, the competitions they take part in and player contracts.

“All four regions have consistently stressed that they remain totally committed to working with the

WRU to secure a sustainable and competitive future for professional rugby in Wales,” it reads.

“At NO time have the regions ever stated or indicated any intention to “break away” from the governance of the Union or IRB.”
