NEWPORT Gwent Dragons' young props will flourish thanks to new recruit Boris Stankovich's knowledge of the dark arts, according to his boss at Leicester.

The 34-year-old loosehead has penned a two-year contract at Rodney Parade, bolstering a tight five that has struggled for a number of seasons.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill is pleased that his strong-scrummaging prop has earned a deal, although he is disappointed that it won't be his young charges benefiting from his experience.

"Boris is a really fantastic guy," said the former England hooker. "It is the next chapter in his career. It's a perfect move for him.

"In an ideal world, we would have liked to keep him for another year to help in the transition of some of those younger players, but he has been great for us. I signed him and he has played in some massive games for us.

"He has been such a good person who helps so many young guys like Tom Bristow, Harry Thacker and others.

"He will be a credit and a real plus for Newport. We wanted him to stay here longer but I am happy he has gone on his own terms and that he may soon to move over into the 'dark side' of coaching!"

Stankovich joins Wales stars Lee Byrne and Aled Brew in signing for next season and Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones will continue his efforts to bolster his squad.
