WALES new boys Jake Ball and Rhys Webb hope to have big involvement in the crunch Six Nations clash against England after grasping their chance to impress.

The pair enjoyed their first Test starts against France at the Millennium Stadium last Friday and both produced tremendous performances.

Webb, brought in at the expense of Mike Phillips, did well and it would be a harsh decision to recall the Racing Metro and Lions scrum-half.

"Obviously it would be nice to keep my place, there is two weeks back in camp now and training and obviously I'd like to battle Mike for that jersey," said 25-year-old Webb.

"I just do what I've been doing and working hard and it is down to the coaches.

"I really enjoyed the game and fair play to the boys, we wanted to start with a quick tempo and we got that and got points on the scoreboard."

Ball enjoyed a surprise promotion from the bench after Alun Wyn Jones suffered a foot infection.

"I probably had a good idea about it on Thursday night seeing Alun Wyn's foot was nicely swollen up," said the Scarlets man. "I probably still had about 10 hours of sleep but I kept waking up dreaming about rugby."

The 22-year-old was excellent and more than played his part in a much -improved performance by a pack that was dismantled by Ireland in Dublin.

With Jones expected to be fit for round four he may have to settle for a place on the Twickenham bench but he showed against France that he has the physical attributes to slug it out with an in-form English front eight.

"After the Ireland game we knew they were going to be coming at us strong with their driving lineout and if we didn't deal with it they would have kept coming at us," he said.

"We did deal with it and I think we can take a lot of confidence from that.

"I hope I can stay in the 23 but I'm aware of my age and sometimes it is a case of biding your time, and sometimes they do like experience."
