Nelson Cavaliers 2nds 2 -1 Llantrisant
NELSON were looking to build on last week’s impressive win against Llantristant and despite being forced into changes from last week’s line-up, Nelson still fielded a quality side.
Both sides struggled to come to terms with a heavy pitch early on but soon settled down and began to play some neat football.
The first scoring opportunity went to the visitors when a great free kick looked to be heading for the top corner only for Matthew Farr to pull off an unbelievable save and turn the ball over for a corner.
Cavaliers responded with a chance of their own when Haydn Pitt ran onto a through ball, rounded the keeper and shot for goal but the surface slowed the ball and it was cleared off the line.
Both sides continued to attach but the half drew to a close without either keeper being further troubled.
Nelson then started the second half creating chances but were unable to break the deadlock.
Nelson were caught out when a quick break found the defence outnumbered and a slick pass to the Llantrisant striker saw him open the scoring.
Nelson responded well to going a goal behind with wingers Alan Pitman and Ian Jenkins displaying some lovely touches causing problems for the visitors defence.
This soon created an equaliser with a great ball through to Ryan Donovan who calmly fired home into the far corner leaving the keeper grasping thin air.
Nelson continued to create chances and always looked the winners.
Against the run of play Llantristant were awarded a penalty after a reckless challenge in the dying minutes but Matthew Farr was ready and dived full length to turn the ball away.
Nelson renewed their onslaught on the visitor’s goal and were finally rewarded when a Dan Sudale strike was deflected off Ryan wrong footing the keeper and into the net.
Nelson saw out the remaining minutes without any incident.
