  • "Yet again we have a vague reference to a possible rebranding of the whole region. We need this put to bed once and for all, ideally before we are asked to fork out for a season ticket as fans need to know what they are buying into.
The current vote on the logo design my be a testing of the water but how representative will it be of those who are actually prepared to pay real money, go out in all weathers and endure a modest fare at best? The new brooms may well need to appreciate the value of the current supporter base before embarking on a rebrand which will inevitably alienate some sections with no guarantee of wiling replacements ready to take their place.
As a start, we need to know where games will be played next year, as for the last two seasons we have been tempted into early bird deals only to be told later that games will then be moved from Rodney Parade. Last year's plan was ultimately shelved but will we know more this year?
Most companies acknowledge that it is easier to keep current customers, than find new ones to replace them but does the new set up at RP recognise that in their deliberations when they set these hares running?"

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons supporters must pick one of these three crests for their region to adopt next season.

The Rodney Parade outfit have started a web vote that will run until 5pm on Tuesday to decide their logo for 2014/15.

The tail features in all three but fans must choose whether they want Newport or Dragons to be more prominent.

The region has had their current crest – with Newport above the tail and Gwent Dragons beneath it – since their first season in 2003/4.

“It’s a brand refresh in that it’s not going to be massively different but it will set the tone for the direction that we are going next season,” said commercial and marketing consultant Ben Jeffreys.

“We are looking at the possibility of conducting some more in-depth research regarding the future of the entire region, whether it focuses on Newport, Dragons or something entirely new.

“This is a prelude to that but gives us a good way of setting the tone. We are changing for the better with the market opinion in mind.”

The winning crest will be announced next Thursday and details of season tickets will be announced the following day with leaflets handed out at the final game on the season against Treviso on Saturday, May 10.

A decision has not yet been made as to whether the new crest will feature on next season's home jersey or whether, like the current away top, there will just be the Dragons tail.
