I agree with broadsworddan on this. Did the online survey have any constraints on who could vote or was it open to anyone who wanted to vote? If the latter then I would fully expect the nutter & negativity brigade to be out in force. The biggest mouths on the internet are rarely the brightest or best. If it was restricted in some way e.g. season ticket holders only, then the fuss raised does not bode well.
SILURIX, even the survey was poorly thought out. As you suspect, anyone could vote. Not only that it was made possible to vote more than once. It reminds me of when they did an 'open suggestion survey' on who to name the bridge outside wembley after. The biggest vote was for scott gibbs!!
If you want to rebrand a team to capture the imaginations of a united gwent, be a bit braver and go for something like The Silurians. It would be better than The Dragons. A famed warrior people who controlled pretty much the same territory. Rugby fans can relate to a fierce tribal culture."

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have decided to abort their supporters’ vote for a new crest less than 24 hours after it began.

The Rodney Parade region have pulled the campaign in an embarrassing climbdown after receiving negative feedback.

There have been 2,234 votes since the website went live at 6pm yesterday but the current logo - which has been on the jersey since 2003 - will remain next season.

The idea opened up a can of worms, firing up the rival factions that argue for a return to just Newport or for the region simply to called the Dragons.

A statement to supporters reads: “Yesterday we launched the ‘Your Dragons’ campaign, an initiative aimed at asking you, the supporter, to choose the new Newport Gwent Dragons logo for next season.

“We launched the campaign with the best intentions of providing you with the opportunity to choose the logo you enjoyed the most.

“Yet in light of the vast amount of feedback we have received from the Newport Gwent Dragons community, we have unanimously learned that the logos do not resonate with you in the way in which they were intended.

“As a result, we have decided to withdraw the campaign and will continue to use the current Newport Gwent Dragons logo for next season.

“Your feedback is always highly valuable to us and we hope that our swift response demonstrates our commitment to your thoughts.”
