Fairbrother pens Dragons deal

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have signed tighthead prop Lloyd Fairbrother on a three-year deal from Exeter Chiefs, writes Chris Kirwan.

The 22-year-old front row forward, who qualifies for Wales thanks to his mother from Blaenavon, has spent the last two seasons on loan with Plymouth in the Championship.

The Cornishman made one appearance for the Chiefs last season – against the Ospreys in the LV= Cup – and heads over the Severn Bridge with a reputation as a strong scrummager.

Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones said: "I am delighted that Lloyd has signed a contract with us. He has shown great promise through learning his trade with Exeter.

"The key part with him is his development; I want to spend time continuing the good work that Exeter have done with him, making Lloyd the best that he can be.

"He has outstanding ability and I look forward watching him develop as a player in the Dragons squad."

While Fairbrother arrives at Rodney Parade, Nathan Buck is set to follow Argentinean Francisco Chaparro in heading for the exit after being a fringe player this season.

The Dragons have signed Jersey tighthead Dave Young for 2014/15 and currently have Dan Way and 19-year-old Alex Jeffries on their books.

The future of Wales and Lions prop Adam Jones – who has been linked with a move to Rodney Parade if he pens a central contract – remains unclear.
