NATHAN Cleverly says he and Lee Selby can take Welsh boxing to new heights over the next few years, starting in Cardiff tonight.

Selby faces a WBC featherweight world title eliminator against Mexican Romulo Koasicha at the Motorpoint Arena.

And former WBO light-heavyweight world champ Cleverly steps up to cruiserweight for the first time as he faces Shawn Corbin of Trinidad & Tobago.

Gwent fight fans can also look forward to Gavin Rees’ rematch with Gary Buckland.

And Mitchell Buckland and Robbie Turley are on the undercard, which starts at 5.45pm with the Sky Sports coverage beginning at 7.30pm.

“I think we’re potentially on the crest of a wave with myself and Lee, who is going to be challenging for a world title soon,” said Cefn Fforest ace Cleverly.

“We could have some excellent shows here and there are some cracking fights on the undercard as well.

“It’s good for all the Welsh fighters so let’s hope we can keep winning and keep it going now.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn is excited about Cleverly’s return to the ring.

“I hope Corbin sticks it on Cleverly because we don’t want anyone coming over here, taking one shot to the chin and going home,” he said.

“It’s a co-feature but Selby will box last because it’s a world title eliminator.

“I wanted to take away the responsibility from Cleverly of being the main man and the headline act.

“I think it will be nice for him to go out at 10pm, get the job done and then move on to the next one.”
