GAVIN Rees brought the curtain down on a glittering, 16-year in-ring career at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena in another war with domestic rival Gary Buckland.
The duo stole the show the last time Matchroom Promotions came to Wales and the rematch didn’t disappoint, both fighters tearing into one another for 36 minutes that were draining even to watch.
There is seemingly little room for strategy or spoiling in a Rees v Buckland clash and the pair stood toe-to-toe for every minute of this pulsating 12-rounder.
However, this time the outcome was different, with Rees rather than Buckland the victor on split decision, the judges scoring it 117-113 and 116-113 for Rees and 116-113 for Buckland.
Full fight report and reaction from Rees in Monday’s Argus Sport and online.
