WRU SURVIVES VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE

3:52pm Sunday 15th June 2014

THE Welsh Rugby Union today survived a vote of no confidence after four hours of debate ended with just four club representatives voting for a change of regime.

The no confidence motion was opposed by 462 with 18 abstentions.

The extraordinary general meeting was prompted by former WRU chief executive David Moffett who won the backing of 39 WRU member clubs and the four regions.

He was present at the meeting despite there being some uncertainty about his whereabouts in the run up to it. Moffett had hoped to win election to the board.

The 43 had accused the WRU board of not running Welsh rugby in the best interests of the game.

Ben Jeffreys from Pontypool was one of the four who voted against the WRU. He tweeted:

'Disappointed. Could clearly see people lost interest in the debate. Only 4 VONC shows that something is seriously wrong in Welsh rugby.

'Yet I fully respect the democratic process, have to respect it and move on. I can sleep knowing I stood up for those concerned for the game.'
