WALES and Lions lock Ian Evans has signed for Bristol following the collapse of his move to Toulon.
The 29-year-old had been set to play for the Heineken Cup holders after leaving the Ospreys but the French team had a change of heart.
Evans, who came off the bench for his 32nd caps in Wales’ first Test defeat to South Africa, was linked to the Scarlets and Exeter but will instead head to play Championship rugby for big-spending Bristol.
“Ian is a tough, physical second row will be a valuable addition to our pack ahead of the new season,” said director of rugby Andy Robinson.
“He’s a quality lineout operator and shows the attitude that you’d expect from a top-class international player. He will complement our young locks and play an important role in developing them.”
Bristol, who were condemned to another season in the Championship when beaten by London Welsh in the playoff final, have already signed Ryan Jones, Dwayne Peel and Matthew Morgan for next season along with Samoan aces Anthony Perenise and Jack Lam
