Cwmbran dinner with rugby icons

1:42pm Thursday 3rd July 2014

THREE rugby legends will be stars of the show at a dinner in Cwmbran in the build-up to Wales’ autumn internationals.

Former Wales fly-half Jonathan Davies, iconic New Zealand number eight Zinzan Brooke and ex-Australia try machine David Campese will talk about their glorious careers and preview the upcoming Tests at the Parkway Hotel.

The man with the tough task of keeping the three former players in check is Welsh international rugby referee Nigel Owens, who will host the event on Thursday, October 30.

With Wales taking on the Wallabies, Springboks, All Blacks and Fiji in November there will be plenty for the prestigious panel to get their teeth into and Davies, Brooke and Campese will also do some reminiscing, recounting tales from a golden era of rugby.

Davies pulled the strings for Wales 37 times before making the move to rugby league and becoming a star for Great Britain.

Brooke won 58 caps for New Zealand and the 49-year-old is arguably the greatest number eight to have played the game, mixing strength with the skills and agility of a fly-half.

Campese held the world record for Test tries after crossing the whitewash 64 times in 101 appearances for the Aussies and was player of the tournament when Wallabies won the 1991 World Cup in England.

The dinner starts at 7.15pm and there will be a three-course dinner, Q&A session, raffle and auction.

The dress code is lounge suits and dresses with tables of 10 costing £450 with some individual places available for £45.

There will also be some platinum tables – which have a selection of fine wines and prime location for the main event – available for £650.
