ADAM Matthews has become the third player to pull out of Wales' squad through injury ahead of their opening Euro 2016 qualifier against Andorra.

The 22-year-old Celtic defender follows Reading winger Hal Robson-Kanu and West Ham's James Collins in withdrawing from Chris Coleman's squad for the away game on September 9.

A statement from the Football Association of Wales said Cardiff's Declan John had been called up from the Under-21s to replace Matthews. Newcastle's Paul Dummett and Reading's Jake Taylor have already received late calls.

Uefa is yet to decide whether Andorra's newly laid 3G artificial surface is suitable to play the match on.

Tests on Thursday showed the ball was rolling too fast on the surface and if Andorra cannot rectify the problem then the match will be moved to another country.

A decision had been expected on Tuesday, 2 September, but is now not expected until the sometime today.

Robson-Kanu has not played since suffering a knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Stevenage in July while Collins was injured in West Ham’s second game of the season.

Kanu's place was taken by his 22-year-old Reading team-mate Jake Taylor, 22, who became the fourth uncapped player in Chris Coleman's squad for the match.
