NEWPORT Gwent Dragons forward Andrew Coombs has been banned for three weeks for stamping on the head of Alun Wyn Jones.
The 29-year-old lock/flanker caught his Wales teammate on the head at a ruck after coming off the bench in the second half of last Friday’s 17-15 Guinness Pro12 defeat to the Ospreys at Rodney Parade.
Coombs was cited after the game and he was given a three-week ban at a disciplinary hearing today, with his apology to Jones and previous good disciplinary record ensuring a reduction from the IRB’s entry point of a five-week suspension.
He will miss Saturday’s game against Glasgow as well as the Pro12 clashes against Treviso and the Scarlets before being back in contention for the trip to Edinburgh on October 11.
