EBBW Vale hope that a workout with Wales Under-20s can help them regain top spot in the Principality Premiership when they host Neath on Saturday afternoon, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Steelmen took on the Wales young guns at a training session on Tuesday at the national training base in the Vale of Glamorgan after a frozen pitch forced a late move from Eugene Cross Park.

The forwards and backs split into units before a conditioning game was played with Jason Strange, Ebbw head coach and WRU skills coach, declaring the session a success for both parties.

He will hope that his club charges can maintain their fine form against the Welsh All Blacks to leapfrog leaders Pontypridd, who are in British and Irish Cup action.

Last weekend second-placed Ebbw were frustrated when snow forced their game at Llandovery to be postponed and they are relishing the chance to get back out in the middle before enjoying a free weekend.

"This is the last game of a block of fixtures, we have won all four so far (against Llanelli, Bedwas, Cardiff and Carmarthen Quins) and want to finish off with another," said Strange.

"We are expecting a really physical game against Neath and there is no chance of us underestimating them.

"They are very abrasive and got stuck into Pontypridd last week when they were a bit unfortunate not to win with a late kick."

Former Wales Under-20s and Dragons academy fly-half Dai Langdon is set to be involved against the club he left earlier this month, making his second debut for the Steelmen.

The 25-year-old from Abertillery left for Cross Keys in 2009 and went on to make 108 appearances for Neath, including a start at centre when Ebbw won 29-18 at the Gnoll in September.

"Dai is ambitious and the fact that he is from the area was a big reason behind us signing him," said Strange. "He is a good character on and off the field."
