NEWPORT Gwent Dragons will host Welsh rivals Cardiff Blues in the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

The Dragons did the double over Stade Francais at Rodney Parade thanks to tries in either half by hookers Elliot Dee and Rhys Thomas from driving lineouts.

Their 30-19 success meant that Exeter would leapfrog them in the seedings with a 41-point victory against Bayonne at Sandy Park and they did just that thanks to a late flurry of points in a 45-3 success.

The Chiefs will now face Newcastle in the last eight while the Dragons will host the Blues and the board must now decide whether to keep their home advantage at Rodney Parade or attempt to put on a potentially lucrative encounter at the Millennium Stadium.

Captain Rynard Landman believes his side will go into the clash with a spring in their step after doing the double over Stade Francais.

“It was a job well done,” said the South African lock. “We knew we had to get a point out of the game but we kept the scoreboard ticking along and a second win against Stade Francais sets a good platform for knockout rugby.

“We kept the scoreboard ticking and you go for the win first. We are not really bothered who we play because to be in the final we have to beat anybody.

“A few of the games the backs played brilliantly and the forwards were a little bit down and other times it has been the other way around but today there was a good balance.”
