EAST Kilbride go boldly into the second half of the National Championship having consolidated their lead of Division One by ending third-placed Langholm's recent good form with a 14-10 win at Torrance House.

A try and two penalties from Gordon Steven gave East Kilbride an 11-5 lead when, with a minute to go, Andrew Jeffrey crossed for the Borderers' second try. However the conversion was missed and EK immediately replied with a Paul McAllister drop goal.

Second placed Berwick scored five tries in their 40-0 win over Haddington, with 19-year-old winger Chris Brown bagging a brace on his debut.

Annan's 22-3 home win over Cambuslang keeps them out in front in Division Two. Livingston beat Dalziel 19-9 to leapfrog them into second place, with home goal-kicker Derek Baillie belting a penalty over from his own half.

Cartha QP scored five tries as they moved into third place in Division Three by defeating Dumfries 38-6 as Madras were upset 31-18 at lowly Allan Glen's. Garnock ended Highland's three-season unbeaten home record with an 18-11 success, with winger Ewan Jeans scoring two tries.

Division Five leaders Lochaber's proud record as the only club to gain the bonus point every week came to an end when they recorded only three tries - through Brian Knowles, Nigel Baillie and Graham Macnab - in beating Greenock Wanderers 25-14. Greenock were forced to field younger players, notably stand-off Kevin Murray, son of referee Eddie, who adapted well to the conditions.
