IRISH tomatoes are sprouting out of the sands of an Argyll beach after migrating from Larne in Northern Ireland.

CB radio ham Bill Hunter spotted a huge patch of tomatoes growing under the waters at Machrihanish, on the Kintyre coastline.

Mr Hunter, 54, of Southend, Argyll, called his CB enthusiast Adam Semple, 61, in Magheramorne, near Larne, who told him that tomatoes were also growing on the beach at Sandy Bay in Larne. It is believed the seeds floated over on the tide and flourished in Argyll.
