SCOTLAND'S galleries have benefited from inheritance tax payments to the Government in the form of art works worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. The Thomas Girtin watercolour Stepping Stones on the Wharfe has been allocated to the National Galleries of Scotland, while a second work, Christ Brought Before Pontius Pilate, by Luca Cambiaso, has been given to the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow.
