KRIS Boyd will return to training with Kilmarnock this morning buoyed by a successful three-day trial with Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Premiership newcomers.
Dave Jones, manager at Molineux, had been alerted to the Scotland Under-21 striker's ability and invited him to the club's training ground to assess him at first hand. Though no deal is imminent, Jones will travel north to watch Boyd play in the Premierleague for Kilmarnock and continue to monitor his development with a view to a possible transfer bid during the mid-season window.
Boyd was happy with his performance and has returned with renewed enthusiasm having been involved in his club's 4-0 opening day defeat against Rangers. ''I had a chat with the Wolves manager before I left and he said he would come up and see me in a game before making his mind up,'' said Boyd, who finished last season as Kilmarnock's second-highest scorer with 12 goals.
''I felt I did well in the bounce games but now I have to concentrate on doing well for Kilmarnock. It does give you a wee boost, though, when teams like Wolves are showing an interest in you''.
Boyd received encouragement from Colin Cameron during his stint and was introduced to Kenny Miller, who will miss Wolves' season opener against Lorenzo Amoruso's Blackburn Rovers through injury.
Jones has scoured the continent for a target man to complement Miller after the former Rangers man established himself as the No.1 striker with 25 goals in last season's promotion-winning campaign. He signed Henri Camara, the Senegalese internationalist, for (pounds) 1.5m from Sedan and Steffen Iversen from Tottenham Hotspur on a free. With Nathan Blake, George Ndah, and Dean Sturridge all nearing the end of their careers, Jones is keen on reducing the age profile and may take his interest in Boyd a stage further in the near future.
Miller, meanwhile, was yesterday unveiled as the new face of sports giants Puma.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
