THE Duke of Argyll has been granted a stay of execution over the

removal of his road signs advertising Inveraray Castle. The signs, which

were erected on the outskirts of Inveraray more than 10 years ago, were

deemed unsuitable by Argyll and Bute District Council planning committee

and not in keeping with planning regulations. However, a planning

committee meeting in Lochgilphead yesterday agreed to further

discussions. Argyll estate had lodged an appeal with the Secretary of

State to keep the signs on the A83 road between Glasgow and Inveraray.
