The most prestigious choir prize, the Lovat and Tullibardine Shield, was awarded to Dingwall for the second year running, when they achieved an overall combined score for music and Gaelic of 368.

Dingwall also take home The Oban Times Silver Salver for the highest marks in music, and conductor Kirsteen Menzies won the Malcolm G MacCallum Silver Baton, for her winning role.

Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association, scoring 367, took home The Weekly Scotsman Quaich and The Donald J MacAskill Memorial Trophy, which are both awarded to the choir with the highest marks in Gaelic, while their Gaelic tutor won the Donald Thomson Memorial Cuach.

Ms Menzies, 35, took over as conductor of Dingwall Choir from her father Hamish, who led it for 37 years.

She said it was incredible to have won the competition two years in a row and added: “It was very close, a superb competition. We are just overwhelmed to be the lucky winners once again.

The nine strong entry from Badenoch, Còmhlan Luadh Bhàideanach, won the

Waulking Song contest.
