ASSIUT: Gunmen shot at a bus carrying German tourists in southern
Egypt yesterday but missed their target, police said. The attack
occurred at a town 19 miles north of the southern city of Assiut, focal
point of Muslim extremist violence. It was the fifth attack against
tourists in Egypt this year. Tourism has dropped by more than half since
the militants killed a British nurse last year.
