A 28-YEAR-OLD man was being questioned by police yesterday about the
rape of a 13-year-old girl after being arrested during the afternoon in
the East Mayne area of Basildon, Essex.
A police spokesman said he was being interviewed at Basildon police
station about the rape of the girl at knifepoint near to a golf course
in the town on Wednesday. The girl was approached by a man with an
eight-inch double-bladed kitchen knife who grabbed her and forced her
into a copse before raping her. Detectives are also investigating a
possible link with the rape of an eight-year-old girl last September.
