AN ELDERLY man who was seriously injured three months ago in an

incident at his Edinburgh home which left his wife dead has now died in

the Channel Islands where he was recuperating at the home of his son.

Detectives investigating the alleged murder of the woman flew to

Jersey yesterday to establish the cause of death of her 82-year-old

husband Mr Robert Steven.

They will submit a report on their findings to the procurator-fiscal

who will then study the circumstances surrounding Mr Steven's death to

consider if it is connected with the injuries received during the

alleged attack.

Mrs Florence Steven, 84, was found dead and Mr Steven was found

seriously injured in separate rooms at their home in Frogston Road West,

Fairmilehead, Edinburgh, on October 3.

Two men have since appeared in court charged with Mrs Steven's murder,

the attempted murder of Mr Steven, and robbery at the couple's #150,000

home. They are Mr David Tustin, 58, of no fixed address, and Mr Michael

Cushion, 33, from Birmingham.

The accused men's solicitors, two Crown Office pathologists, and a

representative from the procurator-fiscal's office travelled to Jersey

with the detectives from the Lothian and Borders force.

Mr Steven, a retired civil servant who had been in poor health before

the incident, flew to the Channel Islands to recuperate after he was

released from hospital.
