THE International Congress on Calvin Research, which is devoted to the

study of the life and work of John Calvin, the great reformer, yesterday

began its first meeting in Britain when 100 scholars from many countries

gathered in Edinburgh. A service was held in St Giles' Cathedral at

which the Rt Rev James Simpson, Moderator of the General Assembly of the

Church of Scotland, and the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Mr Norman Irons,

took part.
