MELDRICK Taylor will learn tonight in Las Vegas if his

four-and-a-half-year nightmare will finally end, or if five seconds back

in 1990 will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Taylor will fight Julio Cesar Chavez for the Mexican's WBC

super-lightweight title. Chavez will receive $1m and Taylor $400,000.

But more than the championship and probably even more than the money,

Taylor will be fighting to exorcise the final few seconds of his first

fight with Chavez, who turned almost certain defeat into a victory that

has had as much controversy surrounding it as any fight.

In addition to the Taylor-Chavez rematch there will be five other

title fights. Juan Goggi of Argentina will defend the WBA junior

welterweight crown against America's Frankie Randall.

In what could be the most exciting fight of the night, Puerto Rican

Felix Trinidad will defend the IBF welterweight title against Mexico's

Luis Ramon Campas. WBC super-featherweight champion ''Jesse'' James

Leija (USA) will be challenged by Gabriel Ruelas of Mexico, and the card

will begin in the afternoon with Italy's Gianfranco Rossi defending the

IBF junior-middleweight title against Vincent Pettway of the US.
