July 26.

Some may say that the performance of Parliament on Thursday night was

high drama and democracy at work. I say it was a travesty and a

disgrace.

John Major and John Smith both stated that there was a majority for

Maastricht. This may be true among the plastic politicians who do as

they are told in order to be re-selected but it is not true if one is to

consider the will of the people.

Neither the Conservative Party nor Labour is prepared to face the real

issue: does this country want to be in Europe? The answer is No. Let a

referendum decide, not a pantomime.

I am proud to be a Conservative, but only because of the calibre of

people such as Bill Cash, Lord Tebbit, Teddy Taylor, and Lord Rees-Mogg.
