HEAD coach Kingsley Jones says Newport Gwent Dragons will go to Munster with a positive approach this weekend, aiming to match the title contenders and end their season on a high, writes Andrew Penman.

The ninth-placed Dragons head to Cork’s Musgrave Park six positions and 29 points behind their hosts for the final match of their Guinness Pro12 campaign.

For Munster, level on points with the Ospreys and Glasgow Warriors at the top of the table, it is a vital game as they aim to secure a home semi-final for the end-of-season play-offs

But Jones says the Rodney Parade region has put a disappointing few weeks behind them with last week’s home win over Edinburgh and he’s looking for them to sign off with a positive performance and result on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

“I think that Munster will come with a full hit; they’ll be looking for a bonus point, that’s for sure,” he said.

“A home semi-final to them is everything; they’ll be a very tough challenge for anyone at home in a semi-final match.

“They’ve probably been the most consistent team since Christmas and they’re strong everywhere.

“They’re strong with their mauling game and their scrum.

“They’ve taken the likes of Edinburgh apart but hopefully we can stay in the game and get the result we’re looking for.

“We’ve got a lot to gain really going there with a positive approach and we want to finish the season on a high,” he added.

“We’ve had a couple of defeats and those three weeks have been long hard week.

“We don’t really wasn’t to end the season on a poor performance.

“It’ll be a tough challenge but it’s really important that we perform well.

“The challenges will mainly come from their kicking game, wanting to play the game in your half, and their set-pieces.

“They’re a challenge for any team but we feel that on our day we can match them and that’s a challenge to us to travel well and put in a good performance.”

Saturday’s match will be a farewell for the retiring Ian Gough and departing scrum-half Jonathan Evans and both are set to play a part but hooker Thomas Rhys Thomas is a doubt with a finger injury.
