KINGSLEY Jones has denied that Newport Gwent Dragons kick too much but says they need to take a leaf out of Dan Biggar's book by chasing hard against Munster on Sunday.

The Dragons return to Rodney Parade after a 32-13 Guinness Pro12 hammering at the hands of Edinburgh, their sixth loss in eight league games this season.

Their tally of 10 tries is the joint worst in the Pro12 along with Treviso and many supporters are exasperated at the frequency with which they put boot to ball.

However, head coach Jones says it's not kicking that is the problem – instead he has pointed to the quality of the kick and chase. At Murrayfield they kicked 24 times in open play with just four of those efforts contestable and none of them reclaimed.

"Our kicking game wasn't good enough," said head coach Jones. "We didn't kick to contest well and the key thing is accuracy.

"But some of the kicks were in the right places and you see Dan Biggar taking balls from his own kicks. That changes the shape of the defence and it's really hard to defend from those situations.

"Biggar is incredible in the way that he takes the ball back and we have to bring that to our game. It's a huge part of the game – it looks like we kick too much but that's because we are kicking poorly."

There was little to cheer in the Scottish capital but one positive was the return of captain Rhys Thomas as a replacement in the second half.

The 33-year-old former Wales hooker suffered a foot injury in the win against Zebre in week two but proved his fitness with the Dragons Premiership Select in the British and Irish Cup.

He said: "It's been frustrating – if anything I should have done it in pre-season and missed all the running!

"It was huge for me to have the BIC to play in because we did all the same preparation, had the same calls and it was a high standard of rugby for me to get my match fitness in.

"I would have loved to have come back in more positive circumstances and the performance in Edinburgh was not like us. We need to respond against Munster and it will be good to get back to Rodney Parade."
