NEWPORT Gwent Dragons will play their Guinness PRO12 derby against Cardiff Blues in Caerphilly.

The Dragons cannot play the final game of the season on Saturday, May 6 (kick-off 5.15pm) at Rodney Parade because of a fixture clash with Newport County.

They visited the homes of Caerphilly, Cross Keys and Ebbw Vale to assess their suitability for staging the derby and have plumped for the Constructaquote Stadium.

Chief executive Stuart Davies said: “Whilst it is recognised that Caerphilly RFC do not currently play in the Principality Premiership, their stadium in Virginia Park has historically hosted rugby at the highest level.

“The venue has a significant footprint which will allow us to enhance existing facilities to deliver a similar matchday experience for our supporters.”

After working with Caerphilly County Borough Council, the Dragons expect to be able to accommodate a crowd of around 6,000.

The fixture is included in season tickets but supporters must confirm their attendance by contacting the Rodney Parade ticket office.

A full ticketing plan will be announced next week but general admission prices will start from £12 for adults, £9 for concessions and £3 for under-16s.

Temporary food and drink stands will be installed to go along with the existing bar at the stadium while there will be a supporters’ village.

Dragons hospitality box holders and Business Club members will be invited to a marquee behind the posts.
