THERE were impressive wins last night for St Joseph's duo Sean McGoldrick and Gavin Gwynne, and Tredegar's Ricky Rowlands.

Making his professional debut in Manchester, 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist McGoldrick cruised to a routine points win over Brett Fidoe.

The Newport bantamweight, who also won Commonwealth bronze in Glasgow three years ago, won each of the four rounds against the Englishman.

Backed by an army of supporters from wales and Ireland, Tony Borg-trained McGoldrick made an accomplished start to life in the paid ranks.

Stablemate Gwynne, boxing on a Sanigar Events show in Merthyr Tydfil, claimed a fourth victory in as many fights.

Boxing a six-rounder for the first time, unbeaten lightweight Gwynne had far too much in his locker for journey man Jamie Quinn.

Gwynne, who is keen on a title fight by the end of the year, also had a vocal band of fans behind him, including fellow St Joes ace Lee Selby, the IBF world featherweight champion.

Super-welterweight Rowlands was making his pro debut in Merthyr and started with a bang against winless Paul Cummings.

Rowlands won all four rounds and put on an impressive show at the valley town's leisure centre.
