ST Joseph’s ace Andrew Selby will fight Cristofer Rosales in Cardiff next month in an elimator for the WBC world flyweight title.

The 28-year-old from Barry, the undefeated British champion, will take on the big-punching Nicaraguan at the Motorpoint Arena on Friday, May 26.

It’s an opportunity to move into prime position to challenge for the world belt that is currently held by Mexico’s Juan Hernandez Navarrate.

Selby has won all eight of his fights since turning professional but the 2012 Olympian knows he will have to be on top form in the capital.

“It’s great to be back boxing in Wales in the biggest test of my pro career so far,” he said. “I’m getting closer to my dream of becoming a world champion alongside my brother Lee and this WBC world title eliminator will put me in touching distance.

“Rosales is one place above me in the WBC world rankings and from what I’ve seen of him he looks a dangerous fighter.

“These are the tests I need to bring out my best, training is going well and you’ll see the best version of Andrew Selby on May 26.”

The fight will be shown live on Channel 5 and will also feature Newport’s Daniel Barton on the undercard.

Cardiff’s Craig Kennedy also boxes in the biggest fight of his career when he challenges Blackpool’s English cruiserweight champion Matty Askin for the vacant British cruiserweight title.

Cardiff light-heavyweight Nathan Thorley, Aberdare light-heavyweight Morgan Jones, Barry cruiserweight Jonathan O’Kelly, Swansea super lightweight Kristian Touze and Treharris’ Gavin Gweynne will also be in action with boxing starting at 6pm.

Tickets cost £42 or £62 with VIP priced at £102. They are available from Bristol Boxing on 01179 496699.
