Team GB ace's praise for Newport Velodrome
7:12pm Tuesday 31st July 2012 in Sport
TRACK cycling ace Jason Kenny has sung the praises of the Newport Velodrome as he prepares for the Olympic sprint, where he hopes to secure a medal to go with the gold and silver he won in Beijing.
Team GB’s Kenny, aged 24, said of the Newport training camp: “Yes it was good. Everyone was going quite well, if you feel happy you go fast and if you go fast you feel happier, so you get this kind of knock-on effect when the whole team’s going well.”
On the crowds that came to watch them training in Newport, he said: “It was unbelievable. We’re used to training in an empty, kind of cold, silent velodrome, so it was unbelievable to see all those people turn out to see us training.
“It was amazing. It really helped, no doubt about it. It was really good the support you can get. You feel like going up and apologising because we don’t do an awful lot sometimes with a week to go before the race. All the hard work is done and it’s not like we’re racing so we really appreciated all the people coming along. It does make a difference. You get a bit more out of yourself, it changes the feeling in the building.”
