Dragons secure Amos deal Dragons secure Amos deal

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have signed Hallam Amos on a three-year deal, averting the threat of the talented teen heading over to play in England.

The 18-year-old full-back/wing Monmouth School pupil penned the deal last week, much to the relief of his region.

Amos, who made his European debut for the Dragons at Wasps last weekend, is in the final year of his A-Levels and is keen to study medicine.

An Oxbridge application was a possibility – and successfully gaining a place would have led to him leaving Rodney Parade – but now he looks set for Cardiff University.

The Dragons’ hand was strengthened last season when the then 17-year-old, who was born in Stockport to English parents, played for Wales Sevens, thus committing to play with a red jersey rather than a white one on the international scene.

He joins 17-year-old centre Jack Dixon in committing to the Dragons until at least 2015 and the region believe the teens will become firm fixtures in their line-up.

“We are very pleased to have signed a three-year development contract with a young player that has a very bright future in the game,” said Dragons director of rugby Robert Beale.

“Hallam’s education remains vitally important and he will be going to university next year, but we are delighted that such a talented player will continue to progress as a rugby player with us.

“Both Hallam and Jack, who signed a three-year deal earlier this season, are frightening talents – they are so accomplished out there for young men and it bodes well.

“They are the future of the Dragons but hopefully they are just the start of it and I can assure you there is some exciting talent coming through our age-grade sides.

“Now we need to make sure we develop those players in the right way and introduce them at the right time.”

Amos became the youngest regional rugby player when he started at Wasps in the LV= Cup last season only for Dixon to break that record when he came off the bench in that same game.

However, he still holds the record for being the Dragons' youngest try scorer after crossing the whitewash at Adams Park on debut.

Head coach Darren Edwards spoke at the end of last season about his excitement at working with Amos, who could also have a future at outside centre.

“Hallam is a young guy with serious potential and I expect him to be shining on the world stage in his mid-20s,” he said. ”He is very coachable and has all the attributes to become a top class player.”

Given the importance of this school year, Amos is likely to have limited Dragons involvement this season but the same doesn't go for Dixon.

The former Coleg Gwent student, an imposing figure at 6ft 2 ins and 16 stone, has been in terrific form for Bedwas in the Premiership and scored his first regional try at Adams Park last weekend.

Oh well, you built that one up Chris. Good news for sure but not the right news at the moment is it. The rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic analogy looms large again it seems.

i keep saying "You Fans arebeing taken for Mugs by the region", They use your Committment and Devoted Support to their advantage, just remember towards end of the season when you lose your high profile players "again" that i said this when i did but on another note YES Hallam is a star of the future

I see the Ospreys have signed another front rower for cover during the six nations. Assume they have the same wage cap? They are making somewhat better use of there's for sure. DE was reported as saying we were a million under our cap. Guess that's all going to pay off the new stand early then? Difficult not to be negative when we have the biggest need and apparently the least interest in solving the problem too.

Bored you maybe but its why we have empty seats we have what we wanted and peed off the support that is more than 5 miles from our ground And before you dismiss this out of hand ask why the support is so low and how much revenue we have lost.
We will always be the paupers of the regions while attitudes like this prevails.

If what EU is saying about NGD being under the wage cap by a million, is it because we don't have the cash for the wage bill anyway or are we "squeezing "players salaries too hard?
If this is true we should be able to get a decent front row for around 500,000 and still have money to have a good BBQ for the fan(s)!

P.S. Bugger off Kal you ARE boring! But if you have any pertinent FACTS, please feel free to expound and air them anytime you feel able.
Constructive criticism is always welcome, blind rants are really for the Wendy (round ball) ballers and face book blogs.........

Oh i must say you make me laugh but fair comment , as u see i can take it as well as give it and as for "**** off with my comments" that would be NO as for my bitterness and anger towards a regin and members of a board etc its nothing to do with what you allege i wasnt employed by the region at all i did various tasks for the region and all voluntary, it goes lot deeper than that also plus its not just rugby related issues that have caused this hatred but as you always criticise referee's i will always criticise the region after all its a level playing field isnt it, i will continue to air my view until i get my apology and the people at the region know exactly why im irate and i will always view my opinion also they cannot get me banned from this site , so in closing your saying consturctive critcism is okay?? so we'll see what you all have to say when yiu all slate and insult the referee in saturday after you lose , as i said before all it takes is an aplogy from a certain woman and certain guy at the region and my hatred will be buried away but until then i will continue to air my opinion just as you all do about referee's

Thank you......... and its good night from him.................

Im sorry but that isnt going to happen the two people at the region who have caused this havent got the balls to face me now so freedom of speech can take place because they can ban me from this site, i have been on may sites and they are similar to your regions however they do take criticism as well as dish it out!!!, i will always say my piece just like you all slate referee's and some people go too far with what they say so like i said "two way street" in respect of people not liking me airing my views. . . . okay i cut a deal with you Stop Crticising Referee's and i will stop criticising the region again two way street - just for the record its not a petty dispute as i said it goes alot deeper and if you knew what had/has gone on etc maybe you would understand , i will accept the fact that you may not agree with my anger and comments but they will always remain and be aired and its your choice to read them just as i choose to read the posts blaming the referee for the regions losses. enjoy your season guys as its going to be tough for you again

Kai is right that he has freedom of speech and we should not try to suppress that. I am sure he is not achieving anything but he isnt aware of that it seems. Leave the control of the forum to the moderators and turn a blind eye i would suggest. No point winding the guy up coz he will only spam the forum with the same comments after all.

Kalwales, if you don't mind me saying so, you're doing it wrong. If you have been wronged & can't get an apology then stand outside Rodney Parade with a banner or placard stating your grievance - something will happen then. Also, don't take general criticism personally - people are wingeing about referees in general, not you. They always have done, they always will. Even Max Boyce did it! All that needs to be said is what Nigel Owen once told a player - "I'm human, like you. I'm not perfect. I make mistakes, like you. So accept it & get on with the game" (or words to that effect).

Yes time to let him just boil and simmer on his own, pity it was fun. Quite right if he has a grievance he should seek to get it resolved with those concerned or it will cause him to become ill over it. So we'll make a deal, don't post about it and be more truthful and we won't take the p**s anymore, deal Kal?

Exclusive and aggressive attitudes like this are the reason why the club (note my intended choice of word) is on the bones of its arse. I would rather have someone like Kal outside the tent spitting in than inside spitting out. He highlights problems unlike some Robert who gloss over obvious ones and fail to see the wood for the trees.

ANYWAY...I think Amos is a another good prospect, but we have a goodly set of backs and some decent cover, please can we now go after what we all know we need ...a front row, worth the name in the professional leagues.
I am sure there are some Romanians wanting some UK "kulture" and the Spanish are throwing up some decent players now too, where exactly are we looking for forward talent.
