NEWPORT will attempt to triumph at something of a bogey ground when they attempt to maintain their fine start to the Thomas Carroll South Wales Premier League.

The men from Spytty Park travel to Ynysygerwn tomorrow afternoon, a venue where they have only once had the better of things in the Premier League.

Last season the hosts triumphed by eight wickets, in 2013 and 2011 they enjoyed a four-wicket successes and in 2010 they had the better of a high-scoring draw.

Newport edged matters in 2012 to emerge with a 20-point haul and a repeat would keep the heat on early pace-setters Bridgend.

"It's a tricky place to go and a different ground that we are not used to be if we play good cricket then we have every chance of getting the win," said captain Michael Clayden.

Newport, who host Sudbrook in the Welsh Cup on Sunday, sit second in the table after last week's four-wicket win against Cardiff at Spytty, with Bermudan all-rounder Kamau Leverock sealing the success in the last over with a breezy innings after Imran Hassan top-scored with 76.

"After kicking ourselves for not beating Pontarddulais (in week two) we've won three in a row and it's been a good start to the season but we know that it's only a start," said Clayden.

"All aspects of our game have been solid and everyone has been contributing. We have been in games, not chasing them but there's a long way to go this year and we are not thinking too far ahead."

Newport are waiting to see if they have the services of off-spinner Andrew Salter as Glamorgan don't have a fixture next weekend, although they must now cope without Terryn Fray and Greg Maybury as they have accepted job offers to return to Bermuda.

Elsewhere, leaders Bridgend host St Fagans, bottom club Mumbles head to Ammanford, Cardiff welcome Pontarddulais to the Diamond Ground and Port Talbot travel to the Gnoll to face Neath.

In Premier Division Two Panteg are looking to build on a morale-boosting win against Aberdare when they travel to Tondu.

A crucial eighth-wicket stand of 69 between David Filer (38) and Chris White (36) helped them to 189-9 off their 50 overs and a routine win looked on the cards when they reduced their visitors to 52-5.

The tail wagged but Panteg got the job done for a 39-run win, bagging 20 points and making it a double success after their Macey Cup romp against Ebbw Vale.

It was a timely success ahead of a weekend that pits them against third-placed Tondu before Sunday's Welsh Cup encounter with Usk.
