CROESYCEILIOG lifted the Macey Shield for the first time after edging out Pontymister in a thrilling final.

Croesy, who are in the title mix in Division One of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League, reached their target of 178 for the loss of six wickets with two balls to spare.

Pontymister batted first at Monmouth and the Division Two promotion hopefuls posted 177 for nine off their allotted 20 overs with Ieaun Wakefield impressing with miserly figures of one for 15 from his four overs.

Conor Miles top scored in the response with 60 and captain Stewart Roden made 43 but it still went down to the last over. Croesy needed eight and Alex Kryjom was their hero.

"It was tense," admitted Roden. "It was the first time that the club has been in the final and to get the win was brilliant.

"It was down to a really good team performance and our fielding in particular was outstanding."

The success made a weekend to remember for Croesy, who thrashed Newbridge on Saturday to climb to third in the league.

They will attempt to keep their winning streak going in a crunch fixture with second-placed Chepstow on Saturday.
