WILL Bragg has signed a new contract with Glamorgan that will take the batsman through to the end of the 2018 season.

The left-hander from Cwmbran, who hit a career-best 161 not out against Essex in the Specsavers County Championship earlier this season, will bring up a decade of service for Glamorgan after making his first-class debut against Somerset at Taunton in 2007.

In that time Bragg has compiled 5,466 first-class runs for Glamorgan and has enjoyed a good season at number three for the Welsh county, closing in on 1,000 runs for the campaign with 954 in 14 matches so far, with six fifties and two centuries this season.

The 29-year-old said: “It’s always been an honour to play for Glamorgan and I’m really pleased to stay with the club for another two years.

“There are exciting times to come with a load of promising youngsters coming through at the club.

“This year has been decent from a personal point of view, but I’m aiming for even better next year both for myself and for the team. Hopefully I can help the club earn some silverware in the next couple of seasons.”

“Will Bragg is a good example of what can be achieved through hard work and commitment,” said chief executive Hugh Morris.

“He’s a positive influence around the dressing room and his contribution to Glamorgan has been excellent over the past nine years. He’s an asset to the club both on and off the off the field.”
