NEWPORT County’s Regan Poole represented Wales for the second time this week, though he’ll be forgiven for a feeling of déjà vu, writes Michael Pearlman.

The Welsh U17s are preparing for the UEFA U17 Championship elite round in March and participated this week in a double-header against their Czech counterparts.

Just 48-hours on from a 1-1 draw at Dragon Park, the two sides met again this morning with the match again finishing level, though this time the contest was staged at the Centre for Sporting Excellent in Ystrad Mynach.

It was the Czech’s who took the lead shortly after the break through Marcel ermák, but Matthew Smith levelled the contest with a powerful effort from the edge of the area. That meant the same result as on Tuesday when Liam Cullen scored the Dragons’ goal.

Wales will play Russia, Austria and Iceland in the UEFA U17 Championship Elite Round between 21 and 26 March 2015 with County highly unlikely to be able to call upon Poole for their away clash with York City, their penultimate game of the campaign.

The finals are set to be held in Bulgaria in May.
