WALES manager Chris Coleman is convinced that Gareth Bale will stay with Real Madrid despite the departure of Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti, writes Andrew Penman.

Question marks have been raised over Bale's future in Madrid after a season of hostile treatment from Real fans and the Spanish media.

And the world’s most expensive player has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

But Coleman, who will hand Bale his 50th cap for his country in next month’s crucial Euro 2016 qualifying clash with Belgium, expects his star man to remain in Madrid.

And the national manager believes he could work well with Rafa Benitez if the former Liverpool chief replaces Ancelotti after enjoying a good relationship with the Italian and his English assistant Paul Clement.

“I've known Paul for a long time from our time at Fulham together and Carlo was brilliant, the medical team were the same and I had no complaints with them,” said Coleman.

“It's a shame for Carlo, I thought he was a great manager for them, but he knows the dangers – you've got to win something.

“But I know Rafa too and the good thing for me is I get another trip to Madrid!

“Look, it was a tough season for Madrid and Gareth is the most expensive player in the world,” he added.

“He was getting criticised but I watched a lot of games and Ronaldo, James, Benzema were all having tough times but all everyone wanted to do was talk about Bale.

“But he'll be better for it, he's never let us down and it won't be a problem.”

And despite continuing links with a move away, Coleman said: “I don't expect Gareth's position to change. You can't say Real didn't win a trophy because of Gareth and the president thinks a lot of him.

“Unless Gareth wants to leave, and I don't think that is the case, I don't think he's going anywhere.

“He's worked hard enough to get to arguably the biggest club in the world, why would he want to leave? I don't think he's going to or he wants to.”

Bale has also taken to Twitter to suggest that he intends to stay with Madrid next season.

The 25-year-old tweeted: "Not the end of the season we had hoped for, we always want to win trophies!

“(I) Will be working hard in the off season and looking forward to coming back next season stronger with @realmadrid #HalaMadrid"

Bale and Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey are joined in the Wales squad by the returning James Chester, Paul Dummett and Andy King.

But injuries mean Newport’s James Collins and Spurs defender Ben Davies miss the clash with Belgium at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 12.

Wales squad: Hennessey, Fon Williams, Ward, Williams, Chester, Gunter, Taylor, Dummett, Matthews, Richards, Henley, Allen, Ledley, Ramsey, King, Vaughan, MacDonald, Cotterill, Robson-Kanu, Lawrence, Bale, Church, Vokes.
