REAL Madrid star Gareth Bale has handed Wales a pre-Euro 2016 scare after it was announced he had suffered a knee injury.

Real are one point behind leaders Barcelona in the Primera Division title race and it has been reported on the Marca.com website that Bale will miss the penultimate league game of the season against Valencia on Sunday.

A statement posted on Real Madrid's official website said: "Following the tests carried out on Gareth Bale, he has been diagnosed with a joint strain in his right knee. His recovery will continue to be assessed."

Bale was influential as Real reached the final of the Champions League on Wednesday by beating Manchester City 1-0 in Madrid.

His deflected strike left City goalkeeper Joe Hart stranded, even though it was eventually recorded by UEFA as a Fernando own goal.

The 26-year-old was later left limping in the win, although he completed the 90 minutes as Real set up a final date with city rivals Atletico in Milan on May 28.

Qualification for the final meant Bale was already set to miss Wales’ pre-tournament training camp in Portugal.

And the injury will also be a big concern for Wales boss Chris Coleman as it comes little more than a month before the national team play their first game at Euro 2016 against Slovakia on June 11.

Coleman will name a 28-man provisional squad on Monday before revealing his final 23-man squad on Tuesday, May 31, after the squad return from Portugal.

Wales then travel to Stockholm for a final friendly match against Sweden on Sunday, June 5.

Then it’s on to the team training base in Brittany before the Slovakia match in Bordeaux.

Wales next play Roy Hodgson’s England at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens on June 16 before their final group game against Russia at the Stadium Municipal, Toulouse, on June 20.
