NEWPORT County AFC utility man Scot Bennett could be out until mid-April as a result of the hamstring injury he picked up at Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.

Bennett, who has played in central defence and central midfield this season, was forced off after 58 minutes of the 5-0 drubbing at Field Mill.

And manager Michael Flynn fears the 27-year-old is set for a lengthy spell in the treatment room.

“He’s having a scan today and we don’t know [the extent of it] but I’d say he’s going to be out for between four and eight weeks,” said the Exiles boss.

“It seemed pretty bad after the game on Tuesday and it was still sore on Wednesday.”

Bennett will definitely miss tomorrow’s home clash with his former club Notts County but Flynn has few other injury worries.

Striker Paul Hayes, who missed out in midweek due to a groin strain, is a doubt but even he could be in contention to play some part against the Magpies.

“He’s probably going to train today,” said the manager.

“Whether or not he’s involved tomorrow [I don’t know]. It might be too soon but he’s training so that’s [positive].

“It was only a little tweak and we couldn’t risk him [at Mansfield].

“Otherwise, as we speak before training, everyone else is fine.”
