Newport v Aberavon postponed

THIS afternoon's Premiership clash between Newport and Aberavon at Rodney Parade has been postponed.

With standing water on the pitch and more rain forecast, the decision was taken to play the game later this season.

Sorry to have to comment such, but Newport RFC PR seems absolutely terrible. Why? Well I was not the only one to arrive at Rodney Parade this afternoon to find the main gates open, but all internal gates closed (including the clubhouse and bar) and not a single official, representative or sign on show to tell the public that the match v Aberavon had been called off.

It is simply NOT good enough to say, "Well we said so on our web page" when we are still in an era when older generations do not access Internet 24/7 or are not IT savvy. Two groups waiting in vain in front of the clubhouse had travelled long distances for today's match: one from Swindon and the other from Southampton - neither had read of any cancellation before setting out for Newport. To find nobody at Rodney Parade to give the cancellation news face-to-face is disappointing to say the least.

Come on, Newport! Good PR has to be basic to keep supporters paying at the gate.

A sign at the gate would have helped I am sure but to be fair, if you are going to travel a great distance to watch a match played after a torrential downpour it kinda makes sense to double check it's on first? If you have no access to the net then surely you gave a younger relative who has a smart phone like most these days. A two second check could have saved a lot if Hassle. I saw the news on the Argus website, Facebook and Twitter, reported by Scrum v, the Dragons and FONR. There was a big effort to get the news out there. Lesson learnt for next time methinks.

I arranged to go shopping with my daughter and her husband and the two grandkids, after which they were going to go home while I went to the game. But, that changed when I found out the ame was off so spent the afternoon with them. I knew the game was off at 11 this morning through being told by others and finding t on the BBC and twitter and Facebook. Agree the rain was so wavy common sence says check first, but then won't have anything to. Moan about some people would they.
